KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is expecting strong demand for its latest S 580 e plug-in hybrid luxury flagship sedan, citing the higher levels of luxury, safety and intelligent systems in the all-new model.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia vice-president (sales and marketing, passenger cars) Michael Jopp said the company had received good pre-launch booking numbers and even had customers asking for early delivery of their vehicles.
“At the moment, we are waiting for the price of the new model to be approved by the government and expect to start deliveries from mid-January,” he said at the launch of the car here yesterday.
The S 580 e, which is locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang, would cost more than the outgoing S 560 e that was priced at RM647,000.
“Although our customers are not affected by the higher pricing, we have always tried to offer the best possible price to them,” Jopp said.StarCarSifu
The new S 580 e comes with a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbocharged engine and an electric motor.
The vehicle, which is bigger and more spacious than the older model, is able to travel 100km in all-electric mode.
It also comes with a large tablet-styled centre display, second generation learn-capable Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system, and is the first vehicle in the world to feature airbags for rear passengers.
